Approaches to teaching and learning in Secondary 1

As part of the Years 7 and 8 curricula, the students undertake a subject known as ATL (Approaches to Teaching and Learning). In this subject, students consider important subjects such as time management, making priorities and goal-setting. Most recently, we have been considering motivation and attitude.

At the end of last semester, a few of the students made their own inspirational posters using images from magazines, and ideas we had been discussing in class. This semester, the students have been thinking about an inspirational figure in their life. This could be a family-member, a celebrity, a sportsperson etc. Individually, they have researched this person to find out what motivates them, and what helps drive them forward.

Slowly, our classroom display is coming together. A wonderful example of inspirational people and ideas in our world that we can look to for motivation. In particular, the Year 7s and 8s have been considering how the attitudes of others have a positive impact on their own approaches to school and life.

Our display should be finished by the end of next week. Please feel free to visit, if you would like to see what the students have been working on!
