Witnessing democracy

The Komm Mit project is an exclusive opportunity for students to get a glimpse into the workings of the German government. Two of ISN’s learning partners from Year 10 paired with a politician who guided them through the concepts and language they might encounter in local government. They had opportunities to witness city hall meetings and did a guided tour of Hambach Castle. The lps attended the weekly parliamentary meetings and found them extremely interesting. Their guide, Diana, is a member of the Green Party and helped the lps to understand the composition and procedures of the meetings and debates. Most of the gatherings took place via Zoom due to Covid-19 restrictions, but the lps were also able to visit some of the bigger city council meetings in person.
