Letisha Selected for Prestigious American Youth Foundation Program

This June, our Year 11 learning partner Letisha will be going on a fantastic journey as she takes part in a prestigious program run by the American Youth Foundation.
From June 14 to 21, 2025, she will attend the National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Miniwanca, USA. This transformative eight-day camp unites high school and college students from diverse backgrounds, equipping them with essential leadership skills that will empower them to make a lasting, positive impact on the world.
Typically, the NLC is open only to U.S. citizens. However, Letisha’s inspiring, bright, and open-minded nature earned her a special invitation – making her return to the program even more remarkable. This opportunity became a reality thanks to the support of mentors and advocates Sara Umland, Michael Harter, and Beth Wilson, who recognized her potential and encouraged her to apply. Letisha had previously attended the program, and it was her former leadership mentor, Teddy Pins, who first suggested she return, even after relocating to Germany.
Her acceptance was no coincidence. Letisha impressed the selection committee with her essay, motivation, and strong commitment to international exchange. She was also honored with the Jennifer Mason Scholarship, which made her participation possible. This scholarship, established in memory of former NLC participant Jennifer Mason, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2014, ensures that deserving students can experience the conference each year. In 2025, that honor goes to Letisha.
When asked how ISN has supported her on this journey, Letisha shared her gratitude:
"I feel listened to, and I know that my mentors and Vjeko, our principal, truly believe in me. ISN has allowed me to attend the camp, even though it takes place during the school year. I feel supported by my teachers and everyone at ISN. They are happy for me and have welcomed this opportunity with open arms. They’ve told me how proud they are of me."
And that’s right – we couldn’t be prouder of Letisha! Her open mindset, enthusiasm, and dedication have brought her this far, and her journey is just beginning.
Way to go, Letisha! 🌍✨
